Ezo Cafe
Located on 16 Geronti Kikodze St, Ezo is a cute little cafe hidden in a quiet residential part of Tbilisi. Ezo in Georgian means "backyard", which is the perfect name for the cafe because it's literally a cafe located in an Italian-style backyard where the cafe's backyard shares space with traditional Georgian houses. Since the cafe's main thing is the backyard experience, the cafe portion inside is much smaller than the outside portion, and the best time to visit is in the summer where the flowers are in full bloom. Along with more greenery, the summer is the best
time to visit because it's the peak period for people
watching Georgian hipsters while enjoying the
summer air and chatting over some good food.
When I went to Ezo for this project, it was early
April and the cafe had newly opened. Georgia during
April is still pretty chilly, and so many people were
sitting inside. Despite this, it's still a great place to
chill with a great atmosphere. Ezo has become
famous in Tbilisi over the years so when you visit
you will definitely see some tourists, especially if isn't
the season. This is because most young Georgians
are either in school/college or are in school/college
out of the country, making the summer the busiest
times for most cafés.
If you do decide to check out Ezo, go anytime you want, but know that the cafe closes at midnight and after 10 pm the main kitchen closes, meaning you'll only get to order from the dessert menu (which is still
crazy delicious). All the food is organic and made from ingredients from Georgian farmers, and I personally highly recommend the plum and walnut pierogi and jasmine tea. The prices are relatively cheap (especially if you put it in the context of dollars rather than laris), and overall it's the perfect place if you're looking a relaxing yet fun atmosphere to catch up with friends or simply take a break from touring Tbilisi.
